Lectors
A well trained tongue.
Proclaiming the Word of God
The Ministry of Lector has a special place in the Liturgy. An excellent lector knows that when they proclaim God's Word they are simply vessels - the medium through which God speaks to his people. While some lectors may experience normal nervousness at reading in public in this way, they learn that it is not about them and are then able to move past that nervousness.
Lectors for Sunday Masses are scheduled regularly. They are expected to prepare extensively in order to proclaim well. At St. Margaret Mary we do not provide missalettes in the pews because we believe that the proclaimed Word of God is to be heard, not read. Therefore, our lectors and deacons and presiders have an important responsibility to be well prepared.
To be a lector you must go to a training session and be prepared for ongoing formation. A lector is part public speaker, part biblical scholar, and totally a person of genuine faith.
We are very proud of the high standard of excellence of our lectors at this parish.
